THE POINT AT THE BLUFFS

Learning how to draw while getting outdoors is a fun and challenging combination of activities for developing both your mental and physical health. These workshops are designed for anyone who is interested in getting outside, learning how to draw, or for those who would like to enhance their existing drawing skills. Register today to secure your spot!

Workshop Fee Options:

Option 1: $20.00 (If you are purchasing your own supplies)

• Upon registration confirmation, you will receive a recommended supply list with items that we will discuss and use in the workshop.

Option 2: $30 (Workshop fee + supply kit rental)

• Supplies include: Temporary use of a clipboard with paper, (3) artist grade pencils, kneaded eraser, pencil sharpener, and graph ruler. Of course you get to keep your, soon to be priceless, sheets of drawing paper.

Option 3: $40 (Workshop fee + Hardbound Sketchbook & Supply Kit [You keep all])

• Supply kit includes: Hardbound sketchbook, (3) artist grade pencils, kneaded eraser, pencil sharpener, and graph ruler.

Drawing Skill Level: Beginner

Note: As opposed to our typical "hiking" en plein air workshops, this will be a predominantly stationary event.  

Meeting Time: 1:00 pm 

Workshop Completion Time: 4:00 pm

Meeting Location: Meet at the most Northern part of the entrance to the park. I will be waiting to greet you near the street where N Mt Holyoke ave turns into Via de las Olas. 

(Be aware: The street right next to the park, connecting N Mt Holyoke Ave. and Via de Las Olas, is closed off to vehicle traffic. When looking for parking please check the surrounding neighborhood and make sure to double check the signs for parking requirements).

BRIEF WORKSHOP OVERVIEW:

This workshop is comprised of group teaching sessions, followed by individual drawing time with personalized feedback and instruction. You will be introduced to beginner level drawing techniques and concepts that you will put into practice during the workshop. *Attendants with more advanced drawing experience  (or who have attended my 8-week drawing course), will receive instruction specifically tailored to their drawing level. 

Areas of Focus:

• Learning how to find a landscape scene that will translate well on to paper 
• How to simplify complex imagery (i.e. the ocean, cliffs, trees, shrubs, mountains etc.) 
• How to use composition, perspective, and convey depth 
• Adding shade and shadow with a variety of techniques (rendering)
• Incorporating selective imagery (how to exercise your artistic license)
• Using techniques that will add a realistic touch to your coastal landscape drawings
• Setting achievable goals and drawing with realistic expectations
• Developing your own style
• And much more!
