Workshop Completion Time: 4:30 pm - The workshop usually runs about 3 hours, based on the hiking pace of the group between drawing sessions. Areas of Focus:
DETAILED OVERVIEW:
The Rain Forest Trail into Fryman Canyon is a great location for learning how to draw distant mountains as well as natural foreground objects. This trail is full of scenery that may be used to study the basic elements of an impressive landscape sketch or drawing.
We start off the workshop with a broad view of the San Fernando Valley from a high vantage atop Mullholland drive via the Nancy Hoover Pohl Overlook. From there we will descend down onto the Betty B. Dearing trail, into Fryman Canyon, and make a stop for sketching in a nice shaded area. After which we will continue our traverse West towards the infamous 'LA Rain Forest' which will be our final drawing location.
The primary goal of this workshop is for you to learn how to draw landscapes from real-life natural environments, while having fun on an afternoon hike. While most of this trail is easy for average hikers, if you are totally new to hiking, I would recommend you go on a few hikes prior to the day of the workshop. The trail is primarily single track, or basically a few feet wide on mostly packed dirt. So wearing appropriate hiking footwear and attire is recommended.
Overall, this location offers a landscape artist a great variety of inspirational material. From wide open views of the San Fernando Valley to unique, up-close forest sections. Come along, have some fun while learning how to better develop your skills as an artist!
